أكد البرتغالي هيليو سوزا، مدرب المنتخب الكويتي الأول لكرة القدم، جاهزية «الأزرق» لمواجهة المنتخب السعودي غداً (الأربعاء)، في مستهل مشواره ببطولة كأس الخليج العربي «خليجي 27»، مشدداً على أن طموح الكويت لا يتوقف عند المباراة الافتتاحية، بل يمتد إلى المنافسة على لقب البطولة.
وقال سوزا خلال المؤتمر الصحفي الذي يسبق المواجهة: «نستعد لخليجي 27 منذ عدة أسابيع، وكان المعسكر جيداً، ونحن جاهزون للمباراة الافتتاحية»، معرباً عن امتنانه لحفاوة الاستقبال والتنظيم الذي وجدته بعثة المنتخب الكويتي في السعودية، إلى جانب جودة مرافق التدريب والاستعدادات المصاحبة للبطولة.
وأوضح المدرب البرتغالي أن المنتخب الكويتي مر بعدة مراحل خلال فترة الإعداد، وأن الخطط قد تتغير وفقاً لطبيعة المنافسين، مضيفاً: «سنواجه خصوماً أقوياء، وعلينا الاستعداد بصورة مختلفة. هدفنا الفوز في المباراة، والفوز بالبطولة بشكل عام».
وأشار سوزا إلى أن الجهاز الفني يعمل على تحديد الثغرات ومعالجتها، مؤكداً أن المهمة ليست سهلة، خصوصاً في ظل ما مر به المنتخب الكويتي خلال السنوات الماضية، وقال: «الكويت مرت بمشكلات عدة وغابت طويلاً عن البطولات، وعلينا أن نعيد المنتخب إلى المكان الذي يستحقه، وأن نمنح اللاعبين المساحة الكافية من الثقة والراحة».
وشدد سوزا على أهمية جاهزية لاعبيه ذهنياً وفنياً للتحديات التي تنتظرهم في البطولة، قائلاً: «لابد أن نكون جاهزين لهذا التحدي. هناك كثير من التحديات، ولدينا قدرات مختلفة ويجب علينا تطويرها. لابد من دعم اللاعبين في كل المناسبات، وهذا أمر مهم، والنتيجة الإيجابية مهمة أيضاً، لكن لابد أن يكون مستوانا عالياً».
وعن مواجهة الأخضر، أكد سوزا أن لقاءات السعودية والكويت تحمل تاريخاً طويلاً في دورات الخليج، لكنه شدد على اختلاف ظروف كل مرحلة، قائلاً: «سنكون واقعيين، المنتخب السعودي لديه لاعبون مميزون، وهو منتخب قوي جداً، وله مشاركات كبيرة وتاريخ مميز، كما أنه يلعب على أرضه».
وأضاف: «سنحاول الاستفادة من مميزاتنا والبحث عن التفوق، ولا نريد في هذه الفترة زيادة الضغوط على اللاعبين. لدينا ثلاثة خصوم أقوياء في المجموعة، لكننا نريد بداية قوية ونسعى دائماً إلى الفوز».
من جانبه، قدم لاعب المنتخب الكويتي فهد الهاجري شكره للسعودية على حفاوة الاستقبال، وقال: «أتقدم للسعودية بالشكر على الاستقبال الكبير، فهم أهلنا وربعنا وإخواننا، وهذا ليس غريباً على السعودية وأهلها».

We are ready for the opening match,” expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome and organization that the Kuwaiti national team received in Saudi Arabia, in addition to the quality of training facilities and preparations accompanying the tournament.
The Portuguese coach explained that the Kuwaiti national team has gone through several stages during the preparation period, and that plans may change according to the nature of the opponents, adding: “We will face strong opponents, and we must prepare differently. Our goal is to win the match and to win the tournament in general.”
Sousa pointed out that the technical staff is working on identifying and addressing weaknesses, confirming that the task is not easy, especially in light of what the Kuwaiti national team has gone through in recent years. He said: “Kuwait has faced several problems and has been absent from tournaments for a long time, and we must bring the team back to the place it deserves, and give the players enough space for confidence and comfort.”
Sousa emphasized the importance of his players being mentally and technically prepared for the challenges that await them in the tournament, saying: “We must be ready for this challenge. There are many challenges, and we have different capabilities that we need to develop. We must support the players on all occasions, and this is important, and a positive result is also important, but our level must be high.”
Regarding the match against the Green, Sousa confirmed that the encounters between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have a long history in the Gulf tournaments, but he stressed the different circumstances of each stage, saying: “We will be realistic; the Saudi national team has distinguished players, and it is a very strong team with significant participation and a distinguished history, and it plays on its home ground.”
He added: “We will try to benefit from our advantages and seek to excel, and we do not want to increase the pressure on the players during this period. We have three strong opponents in the group, but we want a strong start and we always strive for victory.”
For his part, Kuwaiti national team player Fahd Al-Hajri expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for the warm welcome, saying: “I extend my thanks to Saudi Arabia for the great reception; they are our family, our friends, and our brothers, and this is not strange for Saudi Arabia and its people.”
